Troubleshooting
Well Repair Trouble Shooting

Problem 1: Pump turning on and off rapidly (short cycling)

Possible cause – Pressure tank is waterlogged.

Fix – For traditional galvanized tank, you will need to TURN OFF POWER, open hose bibb (water faucet) to release pressure from the tank. Remove pressure gauge or other fitting from tank to break vacuum so tank will fully drain.

For captive-air style tank, TURN OFF POWAER, open hose bibb (water faucet) to release pressure from tank. Check air pressure inside tank with tire gauge at the valve stem located on top of the tank. Record reading – air pressure should be 2 lbs LESS than pressure switch cut on. Example – A 30 on, 50 off pressure switch would use 28 psi of air in the tank. A 40 on, 60 off pressure switch would use 38psi. After adjusting air, replace cap, turn power on. If problem persists – CALL FOR SERVICE.

  2. Remove gauge or other plug at pump housing

  3. Pour water into pump until housing is full

  4. Replace gauge or plug
